    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare the Cake Batter:

  3. Bake the Cakes:
    • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

    • In a saucepan, combine the reserved cherry juice, cornstarch, sugar, and lemon juice.
    • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
    • Remove from heat, add the cherries, and let it cool.

    • In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
    • Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then continue whipping until stiff peaks form.

    • Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Sprinkle with half of the Schwarzwälder Kirschwasser.
    • Spread a layer of whipped cream over the cake and top with a portion of the cherry filling.
    • Repeat this process with the remaining cake layers, finishing with whipped cream and cherries on top.
  7. Garnish:
    • Garnish the top of the cake with chocolate shavings.
