Ingredients:
For the Frikadellen (Meatballs):
- 500g ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the Champignon Rahmsoße (Mushroom Cream Sauce):
- 250g fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, oregano, paprika, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and golden brown.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the Champignon Rahmsoße.
- In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms, and sauté until they are soft and browned.
- Sprinkle the flour over the mushroom mixture and stir well to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes to eliminate the raw taste of the flour.
- Gradually pour in the beef or vegetable broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Stir in the heavy cream and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Once the meatballs are done baking, transfer them to the pan with the mushroom cream sauce. Gently coat the meatballs with the sauce.
- Simmer the meatballs in the sauce for an additional 5-7 minutes, allowing them to absorb the flavors.
- Serve the Ofenfrikadellen in Champignon Rahmsoße over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
